On August 1, 2026, our paper, “Individualized prediction of heroin cue-induced craving using task-based EEG functional connectivity,” published in npj Digital Medicine, was selected as a Featured Paper by the journal.
In this study, we used task-based electroencephalography (EEG) to capture the dynamic neural signatures underlying cue-induced craving in individuals with heroin use disorder and developed an individualized prediction model based on brain functional connectivity. We identified beta-band power envelope connectivity as a promising digital biomarker that can predict both immediate craving levels and individual responses to intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) targeting the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex or the precuneus. These findings provide new evidence supporting the objective assessment of addiction craving, personalized neuromodulation, and digital biomarker-driven precision medicine. We sincerely thank all participants, collaborators, and mentors for their invaluable support and contributions to this work.
